It works as advertised kind of expensive, but if it lasts, it’s worth it

The Thermapen has been my goto thermometer for the past few years, and I decided to pull the trigger to see what the hype is about. Here’s a comparison after 2 weeks of use:In hand, the Instaprobe is beautiful in appearance. The glass design makes for an Apple-like appearance compared to other food thermometers which look they are stuck in the 90s. I already had a few people ask me about it at a recent gathering so you will get questions about it.Performance wise, both the Instaprobe and Thermapen are close and get single digit readings in about a second, with the Instaprobe being a tad faster. Both are pricey at about $100 and are head and shoulders above other entry-level thermometers on Amazon. For those wondering why speed is so important, as a frequent pitmaster, the slower 5-7 second read times can feel like 5-7 years when you need readings over a hot grill and can be the difference between a good burger and a great burger.Other unique features worth mentioning: the OLED display is bright and superior to the calculator-style displays on the Thermapen. It’s motion activated so there’s no buttons to worry about, and it uses AAA batteries which is much more desirable than the CR2032 batteries found on most thermometers.Where the Thermapen might have a slight edge is that it feels more rugged due to the plastic construction vs the glass the Instaprobe. Only time will tell if it's more durable, but as a Thermapen user for years, I am truly impressed by what Typhur has to offer.

The Typhur instaProbe Meat Thermometer is replacing an old, no longer reliable digital probe thermometer. I love the many features of the Typhur Thermomoter—simply lift to extend the probe and the thermometer is ON and ready to use; no on/off switch to remember to turn off! The bright digital readout is accurate, large, and easy to read. I’m usually rushed when cooking and these three features are very helpful. The other nice feature is the built in magnet which attaches to my refrigerator—no more searching in a drawer for a thermometer. It is advertised as washable but I plan to wash only the probe. I’ll wait to read if other buyers are washing the whole unit—I would hate to lose this little gem. This thermometer is everything I could hope for for kitchen use.

This is the best thermometer I’ve had so far! It is on the pricey side but definitely worths it. I simply cannot believe how fast this thing is and when you are cooking over a hot grill that couple seconds saving makes a big difference.It is also very sleek, versatile and easy to clean. Overall a great addition to my grilling kit. Highly recommend!

 When I was un boxing this, it felt like I was getting a new iPhone. The packaging had minimal plastic which was a plus as well as included the 2 AAA batteries needed to operate it. In order to turn it on all you have to do is extend the probe. I don’t have diagnostic equipment at home to determine if it was entirely accurate, but it did appear to be sensitive to changes in temperature. I thought it was an added bonus that the display will change based on the way you’re holding the thermometer so it can be easily viewed from the left or right.

I was hesitant at first because of the price, but after a poorly made cheap knockoff fell apart after just a few uses, I figured I'd give this one a try, especially as it is recommended by CNN. This thermometer is great, and well worth the price. It is unbelievably fast, a true instant read! This has improved by cooking greatly. Add in the fact that it's waterproof and easy to clean, and I'm kicking myself for not buying one of these sooner!
