After using probes from Meater and TempSpike I wanted to try these. The TempSpike probes worked well, but after I converted my grill to LP from NG the temperature got so high I was getting alarms saying I was exceeding the probe's capacity.
Initial thoughts after my first grill with the Typhur. The station and phone app connections were solid. The app is well designed and it was easy to track my grilling. I set the target temp at 140 which gave me a medium-rare filet. I usually am more on the medium well side, so next time I'll bump that up a bit. Once i tune that in I think it will be very repeatable.
Love the professional mode that shows you all the multiple temperatures from all over the probe.
The one thing I'm not a fan of is the alarm on the base station. The alarm needs to be selectable. As I was grilling the alarm was going off inside and annoying my wife. I may not have found the way to turn it off, but please make that an option in a future firmware update. You should be able to 1) turn it off totally 2) have an option for 1 short beep or 3) the current alarm that will beep until you silence it by stopping the cook (and by the way that was the only way I could stop the beeping, by turning off the cook). You should just be able to acknowledge the alarm and turn it off easily.
Summary - Everything was great about this probe. Temperatures were accurate, app was good. Probes are easy to clean. Just have to take the base station outside with me as to not annoy my wife with the alarm. Definitely gets a high recommendation from me.
This is the new best hardware wireless meat probe on the market, hands-down better than all the major brands out there. The only thing is some of these older brands have had more time to develop their app and get customer feedback and add features everything that is not included in the app for Typhur that MEATER or MeatStick offer, I’m sure are probably on the way. You have incredible range from 700 feet and close to 3000 feet open air, which is absolutely bonkers and probably overkill, but I have never had a brand of probe prior to the Typhur that I did not have issues with connectivity because I’m using it in an inch thick cast aluminum Komodo grill I understand that there’s probably not a grill on the market that is more prone to interference between the probe and the base than the grill that I have, but it has caused me nightmares of issues with several different brands of probes over the last four years. The Typhur base, I can take literally anywhere in my house and I’m still connectedT
